Scotland: 3 month reflections
Dec. 7th, 2018 11:08 pmI've been here for almost four months now and I do think I've been adjusting. I was not a particularly well-travelled American prior so the toughest bit is becoming aware of just how American I am. Sometimes when I hear myself speaking (and it's not just the accent) I'll think oh, lord, how can anyone here stand me. But they do seem to be standing me alright.
As a carbohydrate lover, I have taken to the potato and biscuit lifestyle quite well, except for the crappy lunch baked potato. I do not get the appeal of a plain potato with some tuna slopped in and a heap of unmelted shred cheese on top. Love me a good thicc chip though.
I'm disappointed in how little outside exploring I've done. It's hard to get out of the city with no car, only a couple friends, my coursework, and of course the 3pm dark. I hope once the next semester starts I can make more of an effort for some hill walks. I was tipped off that the highland bus tours might not be totally lame so that might be worth it.
I moved here with very little forethought, but I am rather glad I ended up in Scotland. They have such a different perspective than the English and it is culturally quite distinct. There's sort of a, like, national crankiness that makes them a fun people.
Once the winter gets absolutely grim in January and February I'll probably be miserable, but for now I'm having a pretty good time. As long as I get my revision done for my Information Law exam next week.

Ahh, this shit again.
Dec. 4th, 2018 01:05 amI missed DW the first time around, having fallen out of fandom after Livejournal and returning directly to Tumblr. But here we are. It’s not a very sexy interface is it? Fandom is experiencing another great fragmentation, as not an early adopter type it feels too exhausting to try and figure out Mastodon or Pillowfort atm.
